Space Planner/Facilities Designer

Position Description

As a Space Planner/Facilities Designer you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:

  • Process design requests by fulfilling multiple tasks, such as  liaising with team members, gathering information to create the design, measuring and field verifying existing room or site conditions, and creating reports and as-built drawings
  • Translate customer needs into design criteria for Applied Medical facilities that comply with SOPs and other standards
  • Measure existing settings to determine as-built conditions
  • Understand construction detailing and drawing conventions
  • Prepare construction drawings using AutoCAD
  • Collaborate with Facilities team members to manage the interior and exterior of Applied Medical buildings, including design, landscaping, maintenance, and space planning aspects
  • Lead Design team meetings
  • Interact with the Design and Engineering teams, as well as external parties,  to prepare permitted drawing packages and provide various analysis and schedules to ensure compliance with all internal protocol procedures
  • Work with Operations, Design, and Construction teams to analyze any potential red lines or changes related to drawing updates prior to entries into the archives in accordance with Applied’s policies
  • Monitor and report project progression
  • Review permitted construction documents
  • Plan and organize time and workspace

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • At least five years of design experience, including management of design projects
  • Familiar with building codes
  • Proficient in navigating, reading and interpreting construction documents
  • Advanced skills in using AutoCAD
  • Efficient customer service capabilities to discern customers’ needs and ask solution-focused questions
  • Awareness of industrial processes and workflow
  • Basic knowledge of industrial and manufacturing facilities, laboratories, cleanrooms, warehouses, and office building improvements
  • Experience operating standard measuring equipment
