Applied Medical is pleased to announce the expansion of our Applied Learning team with an opening for the position of Associate Instructional Designer. As an Associate Instructional Designer, you will work collaboratively with teams across the organization to design, develop, and implement learning solutions to serve the training and educational needs of specific departments and the organization.


The Instructional Design team is responsible for the planning and development of training materials for internal team members at Applied. They work closely with teams across the organization – conducting needs analyses, developing learning objectives, organizing and editing content submitted by other teams, writing content, and applying learning theory – to define and produce customized training solutions. The team designs and develops learning content in a variety of formats, including but not limited to, online courses, desk procedures, workshop guides and workbooks, videos, and learning assessments that support course content. 

Position Description

Applied Medical is looking for a passionate Associate Instructional Designer to join our Learning team onsite at our Rancho Santa Margarita location. As an Associate Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:

  • First 30 days
    • Learn and familiarize yourself with departmental and organizational processes, systems, and procedures
    • Engage in  Applied Medical’s culture by participating in organizational training programs
  • First 60 to 90 days
    • Assist with course development and interface with cross-functional teams to understand our customer needs
  • First 12 months
    • Collaborate with other Applied Learning team members as you design, develop, and implement various courses for both classroom and online formats
  • Ongoing
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of team processes and training programs by collaborating with team members
  • Maintain open lines of communication with our stakeholders, as well as with fellow team members in Applied Learning, to assist in the continuous development of training programs
  • Communicate with subject matter experts while tracking their progress and needs throughout the training process to provide a positive and immersive training experience
  • Proactively communicate opportunities for improvement

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • One to two years of eLearning/classroom training development experience
  • Critical thinking skills, a thirst for learning and a natural tendency to ask the right questions to gather information
  • Enthusiastic team player
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong analytical skills, the ability to make quick decisions and meticulous attention to detail
  • The ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure
  • Exceptional organization and implementation skills
  • Outstanding customer service skills
