Applied Medical is currently expanding our Corporate Construction Team with an immediate opening for a Senior Director of Construction. Our high level of vertical integration allows the Corporate Construction team to ensure quality building and maintenance in all our buildings. We have 22 buildings at our corporate headquarters in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and facilities worldwide. We are a supportive, diverse, cross-functional team. Position Description

  • Directs and monitors new and remodel construction programs, including inspection of work-in-progress for major construction projects - including planning, design, oversight, and inspection of construction and remodel projects.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify complex project risks, leads constructability reviews, develops risk mitigation and contingency plans, and implements action plans to reduce or eliminate project risks.
  • Plans, organizes and prepares reports to senior staff with respect to the projects’ status and/or progress.
  • Ensures that all construction and remodeling comply with uniform building codes and regulations.
  • Establishes departmental policies and operating procedures that ensure capital projects are planned, designed, and constructed on time and within budget.
  • Develops systems and processes to maximize productivity for construction services activities while minimizing errors while maintaining high service levels.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work and projects to team members within Facilities Construction.
  • Leads the construction project management team organizationally and technically.
  • Plans and evaluates the performance of the construction team.
  • Works closely with the construction team to review all majority subcontractor and material bids.
  • Actively participates in project constructability reviews.

Position Requirements

  • Ten (10) years or more in a Construction leadership role that includes management of construction projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in construction management, engineering, architecture, industrial technology, construction management, facility management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience using MS Project/Primavera, Procore, SharePoint, MS Office, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have the ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings, plans, blueprints, and specifications for building and grounds projects and the ability to prepare cost estimates, write construction or equipment specifications.
  • Adapt in Preparing and administering large and complex budgets and large-scale capital projects requiring coordination of design, schedule, and construction.
  • Knowledge of construction site equipment operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Prepare bid specifications and clear and concise plans, proposals, presentations, and reports.
  • Knowledge of construction site safety protocols and proven ability to enforce project safety programs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable local and state rules and regulations Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations, both federal and state.
  • Knowledge of various capital project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, GMP, CM at-Risk, etc.
